The UCC3912 series Hot Swap Controllers are ultra low-power and high efficiency power switches designed to protect the circuits from inrush current, overvoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature. Applications

Working Principle
The UCC3912 series Hot Swap Controllers feature an on-chip FET device, which can be configured as N-channel or P-channel. The internal FET device is normally off and only turns on when a valid input signal is applied. Once the valid input signal is applied, the FET device starts to conduct to control the current flow.
The controller also features multiple safety and protection functions, including inrush current limit, overvoltage protection and overcurrent protection. The inrush current limit prevents large inrush currents from damaging the system due to sudden power surge. The overvoltage protection feature prevents overvoltage from damaging the system by cutting off the power when the output voltage exceeds the pre-defined threshold. The overcurrent protection function cuts off the power when the output current is above the programmed limit.
