PMIC - Hot Swap Controllers

The UCC3917N is an integrated Power Management IC (PMIC) designed for hot-swap applications that require input protection, current limiting and operational accuracy. It can provide up to 96W of power with up to 200V of input voltage, using a wide range of voltage, current, and power ratings. This PMIC also has a temperature operating window of -20C to 105C, and is capable of toggling up to 35V of output voltage. With a high-efficiency switching design and optimized loop compensation, the UCC3917N is designed to ensure optimal operation.

Working Principle

The UCC3917N switch operates by detecting the input voltage and the amount of load current on a load. Depending on the level of the load current, the controller will then adjust the power stages to keep the output voltage within a specified range. The controller implements a high-voltage single-cycle transient response. This feature enables the controller to respond quickly to changes in load current. The controller also has a logic-controlled foldback that helps to reduce the inrush current during switch-on. In addition, it includes an internal error amplifier, as well as a temperature monitoring circuit and undervoltage lockout, which help to provide a high degree of control and protection. The internal error amplifier monitors the output voltage and compares it to a reference voltage to provide accurate output voltage control.
