The UCC3918DPTRG4 is a Hot Swap Controllers, or PMIC, that allows users to safely and reliably power up and down a hot swap supply. It controls and monitors the battery voltage (VBAT) of a system with up to two battery modules in series, and provides an output drive current up to 32mA to the external FETs to control inrush and power supply start-up and shut-down. Additionally, this device provides overvoltage protection for VBAT, reverse current protection, temperature monitoring and protection, and power on reset (POR).The UCC3918DPTRG4 is typically used in applications where a number of battery modules are connected in series to power a load. It controls the voltage supply by providing an output drive current to the external FETs, increasing and decreasing the load current as needed. This enables reliable and safe start-up and shut-down of the system, as well as preventing overvoltage events from occurring. The device features an integrated overvoltage protection circuit which trips the FET output at a preset voltage, ensuring that VBAT does not exceed a certain level.
