Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are electronic components that are present as part of many electronic circuits and devices. As this aluminum is in contact with an electrolytic material, it forms an oxide layer on its surface, thus improving its electrical properties. This new electrode and the electrolytic material enhance the quality of the capacitor, increasing its response time, working temperature and stability.The most common electrolyte used in aluminum electrolytic capacitors that encloses the two electrodes is made of ethylene glycol, a mixture of rich and inorganic salt. The electrolyte can also be based on other polar aprotic solvents.The construction of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is based on four components:* Aluminum foil (anody)* Dielectric oxide layer* Separator (polyethylene terephthalate)* ElectrolyteThe aluminum anode together with the oxide layer serves as the positive electrode, while the electrolyte successfully serves as the negative electrode. When a potential is applied to these two electrodes, an electric field is created in the vicinity. This electric field then creates a capacitance or electrical charge that is stored in the capacitor.The dielectric used in aluminum electrolytic capacitors is a thin layer of Al2O3 that forms on the anode side of the capacitor when the anode is submerged in the electrolyte.
