Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, abbreviated as AELs, are electric double layer capacitors, a type of capacitor, with rather high capacitance per unit volume, which is the result of its high dielectric strength. The dielectric of these capacitors is an aluminum oxide film, formed in situ on the aluminum foil electrodes. This type of capacitor is very widely used in electronics due to its low cost, as compared to other types of capacitor, and its long life cycle.
