Working Principle
The V10PM12-M3/87A rectifies alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). This is accomplished by the diode’s physical structure, which consists of a P-type semiconductor material sandwiched between two N-type materials, forming a p-n junction. When the AC current passes through the junction, the positive electrons from the N-type material are drawn in by the negatively charged P-type material, leaving the N-type and P-type materials at different electrical potentials. This creates an electrical barrier, known as the diode’s “barrier voltage”, and only allows current to pass in one direction, from the N-type material to the P-type material. The rectifier performs this conversion by forcing the AC current to flow only through the diode when it is forward biased, allowing the current to pass in one direction only.
