Interface integrated circuits have become a key technology in linking multiple components and EDA tools in a common system. The DS21458N+ is a new general purpose interface circuit family that provides a single device solution to many of the interface challenges that designers face. DS21458N+ is highly configurable and offers a variety of features tailored to fit system requirements. With its combination of features, the DS21458N+ can be used in a wide range of applications from high-speed data acquisition to low-level control.
The DS21458N+ has two main types of devices: receivers and transceivers. Receivers are devices which convert incoming digital signals into the desired form. These digital signals may be in the form of voltages, I2C data, SPI data, and bus signals such as NOE (Non-overlapping Edge). Transceivers are devices which convert incoming analog signals into the desired form, such as I2C data, SPI data, and digital signals such as NOE. Drivers are devices that provide a signal to an external device, such as an external memory device or a logic element in an FPGA. Transceivers, receivers and drivers are used to facilitate communication between the different components of a system.
The DS21458N+ offers three types of transceivers including half-duplex, full-duplex, and four path transceivers. Half-duplex transceivers are used to transmit and receive data over a single line. Full-duplex transceivers are used to transmit and receive data over two separate lines. Four path transceivers are used to communicate four different signals at the same time. The DS21458N+ supports I2C and SPI protocol in addition to a wide range of other protocols, such as LVDS, PCIe and GPON. The DS21458N+ provides a configurable clocking mechanism, which allows the user to configure the speed and timing of the communication.
The DS21458N+ also provides several integrated features such as address remapping, arbitration, error correction, and retry logic. The address remapping feature allows the user to assign each device a unique address, which can be programmed into the device. This allows the user to easily access multiple devices on a single data bus. The arbitration feature allows the user to program the order of priority for different devices. This can be used to ensure that the most important data is sent first. The error correction feature allows the user to detect and correct errors in transmitted data. This is done by detecting and correcting errors in the checksum of the transmitted data.
In addition to its transceivers, receivers, and drivers, the DS21458N+ also provides a Maximum Frequency Host Interface (MFH) to interface with external components such as FPGAs, microcontrollers and embedded systems. The MFH provides several control lines, data pins and clock pins to control and communicate with external components. This allows the user to easily interface their device to external components without the need for external logic.
The DS21458N+ also provides a Brown-out Detection and System Reset (BODSR) feature that monitors the system’s input supply voltages and initiates a system reset when it detects a brown-out condition. This feature can be used to protect the system’s components from voltage surges and other abnormal conditions. The DS21458N+ is also capable of supporting active power down modes, which conserve energy and reduce system power consumption.
The DS21458N+ is a versatile, highly configurable interface IC that solves many of the common interface problems encountered by designers. With its wide range of features and integrated functions, the DS21458N+ is well suited for a variety of applications including high-speed data acquisition, control systems, industrial automation and embedded systems.
