Its working principle is based on the fact that when an electrical current travels through a semiconductor, such as silicon, it is only able to move in one direction – from the anode to the cathode. A diode rectifier is essentially two diodes connected in series, with the anode of one connected to the cathode of the other. When the input current is applied, the diode connected to the positive side will become forward-biased, allowing the current to pass from the anode to the cathode. The diode connected to the negative side, however, is reverse-biased, preventing the current from moving in the opposite direction. This process occurs when positive pulses of current enter the diode. These positive pulses cause the negative charge carriers (electrons) to flow from the n-type region to the p-type region, and the positive charge carriers (holes) to flow from the p-type region to the n-type region. This movement of charge carriers results in a flow of electric current across the diode, thus converting the AC current to DC current. The 1N4007FF is capable of handling both high as well as low voltage, making it a versatile device applicable in many applications. Additionally, it is able to handle up to 1A (ampere) of continuous current and up to 40A (ampere) of surge current.
