1N4095 Application Field and Working Principle
The 1N4095 is a single Zener diode in a DO-41 package. This diode is designed for general-purpose use and to provide protection against voltage transients over a wide range of applications. This diode\'s wide current range instruction makes it highly desirable when controlling low-current electrical circuits.
The 1N4095 is mainly used in power-supply protection circuits and over-voltage protection. Other applications include battery charging controls, transistor CMOS protection, MOSFETs and SCRs. This diode is also used as a reference device for ADC and DAC, as current limiters and low-voltage dividers, as transient suppressors and for surge protection. The 1N4095 also provides isolation for sensitive signals, serves as a voltage regulator center tap and as a reference for negative voltage protection circuits.
The 1N4095 has a maximum forward current of 200mA, a maximum reverse voltage of 95V and a maximum diverted power of 500mW. The 1N4095 is operated in reverse bias and needs a voltage higher than 10V to achieve the specified zener breakdown voltage.
The 1N4095 working principle is very simple. When a voltage is applied to the diode it gets polarized in the reverse direction. With the help of some force, electrons and holes are drawn to each other, thus create a bias voltage. When this bias voltage reaches a certain value (the knee voltage) the diode starts to conduct current. The 1N4095 has an ideal avalanche breakdown characteristic with a sharp knee voltage, thus making it ideal for use in voltage clamping circuits. It has a low temperature coefficient, meaning that its voltage is not affected by changes in temperature, making it ideal for use in temperature-sensitive circuits.
This diode also offers other advantages, such as easy operation and flexibility in use. The 1N4095 has long been the default little diode for use in all sorts of everyday circuits. With its low cost and high reliability, it will continue to be the go-to device for engineers, hobbyists, and final designers alike.
