A TRIAC, short for Triode Alternating Current, is a three-terminal semiconductor device widely used in AC power control. It functions as an electronic switch, using both positive and negative gate voltage to turn the device on and off. The main difference between conventional thyristors and TRIACs is the gate control; TRIACs can be triggered into conduction from either a positive gate voltage or a negative gate voltage.
