The ADG509AKP is part of Analog Device’s family of precision interface solutions, specifically part of their lineup of Analog Switches, Multiplexers, and Demultiplexers. At room temperature and nominal supply voltage,this device’s four channels can handle unprecedented switching rates of up to 250V/μs with a maximum on-resistance of 90Ω for each channel. The ADG509AKP also features advanced features such as built-in protection against ESD and overvoltage surges, EMI/RFI filtering,and surge suppression—all while maintaining its low thermal resistance.

At the heart of the ADG509AKP is the function generator and controller, which is responsible for generating the control signals and setting the V-Mux. The function generator is capable of regulating three separate voltage sources, and generating signals for controlling the features of each channel- such as the on/off switch, the quad Mux, and the multiplexing. The block diagram of the ADG509AKP is shown in Figure 1.

When the ADG509AKP is enabled, the on/off switch is activated, enabling the V-Mux, which switch in the correct voltage from the V1, V2, and V3 power supplies, allowing for the multiplexing of signals input to each channel. The quad Mux performs the duty of multiplexing those signals that have been switched in by the V-Mux. The ADG509AKP then routes those multiplexed signals over the selected channels. The multiplexing of signals allows for a greater level of flexibility within applications, and reduces the need for having several discrete circuits to perform a similar function.

While the ADG509AKP is best suited for multiplexing analog and digital signals, it can also be used for multiplexing power supplies, switching relays, or controlling the output of integrated circuits. The ADG509AKP’s high speed, low latency, and EMI/RFI filtering capabilities makes it an ideal solution for applications that need to multiplex signals quickly, cleanly, and reliably.
