BC547BRL1 application field and working principle

BC547BRL1 is a PNP transistors belonging to the family of single, bipolar junction transistors (BJT). A bipolar junction transistor is basically a current control device, which allow an electric current to control another electric current following the rule of currents which basically is stated as: “the current at the output is equal to the current at the input times the current gain”.

What are the Application fields of BC547BRL1?

BC547BRL1 can be used in many different application fields as it is a general purpose transistor. BC547BRL1 can be used to amplify currents, as they can increase an electric current while alternating the input electric current. More specifically, BC547BRL1 can be used to power up a motor, an electric fan or any other device that requires a medium amount of power. BC547BRL1 can also be used to switch electric current on and off by creating special electric circuits. Finally, BC547BRL1 can also be used to amplify outputs from electric devices that have low outputs.

Working Principle of BC547BRL1

BC547BRL1 is a current control device, it has three terminals named base, collector and emitter. The figure below illustrates a simulation of a BC547BRL1:

The electric current will flow between the emitter and collector terminals. The current that will flow is directly proportional to the number of electrons that will have in the collector region. When a voltage is applied to the base terminal, the current will have in the collector region will increase. The voltage applied to the base terminal causes the number of electrons to increase causing the current in the collector region to also increase. The ratio of the increase of the collector region current to the increase of the base current is called the current gain of the transistor in case of BC547BRL1 it is 100. This current gain allows the transistor to amplify the input signal (small current) to a much bigger output current at the collector terminal. By adjusting the input voltage to the base terminal we can easily control the output current at the collector terminal.
