Working Principle

The collector is the main point of connection for the input voltage and current, while the base is the main point of connection for the output voltage and current.

It works by controlling the current flow from the collector to the base. The base voltage is determined by the difference in the input voltage and the output voltage. By controlling the current flow from the collector to the base, the output voltage is adjusted to the desired level. For example, if the input voltage is 9V and the desired output voltage is 3V, the current flow is adjusted accordingly to lower the output voltage down to 3V.

It works best when the output voltage is close to the input voltage. Hence, if the output voltage is significantly higher than the input voltage, it is better to use a MOSFET transistor as it can handle higher voltages than the general purpose PNP transistor.
