IntroductionThe BDX53TU transistor is a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) suitable for a wide range of applications, including low noise design, and audio amplification. The transistor has three terminals – the collector, emitter and base – which can carry current. It is a single, NPN-type transistor and is of the vertical, planar structure type.Understanding the Bipolar Junction TransistorA bipolar junction transistor (BJT) consists of two PN-junctions placed back to back. It is made up of a semiconductor material such as silicon (in this case), and as such, is normally referred to as a BJT. It works by injecting an electron into the collector – base junction to create an injected electric field, and thereby permitting current to flow between the emitter and collector.The BJT can be classified into two types, NPN and PNP. NPN and PNP transistors are symmetrical with regard to their nature and have interchanged characteristics with regards to the voltage and current directions. Applications and Working Principle of the BDX53TUThe BDX53TU is an NPN bipolar transistor suitable for wide range of applications in both low noise design and audio amplifier circuits.The BDX53TU transistor can be used for different electronic applications such as amplifier, switching, oscillator and media player circuits as well.The BDX53TU transistor has three terminals (collector, emitter and base) and depends on the current flow direction.It is designed to have the current flow in one direction and the electrical field is established in the opposite direction. When the base terminal is kept at a positive voltage and the emitter terminal is kept at a negative voltage, the current flow between the collector and emitter will be activated. This process is known as forward biased. The current flow will be limited due to the resistance between the collector and emitter terminals. In forward bias, the collector current will be at its peak value and the emitter current will be at its lowest value. The collector current is limited in this state, as the transistor acts as a switch and its controlled current is the collector current.When the base terminal is kept at a negative voltage and the emitter terminal is kept at a positive voltage, the current flow between the collector and emitter will turn off. This process is known as reversed biased. In reversed biased, the transistor acts as a switch and its controlled current is the collector current. The BDX53TU transistor is mainly used for audio amplifiers, as well as for other applications. The BDX53TU is capable of providing adequate power gain with minimal distortion and noise output.
