The BOOSTXL-TMP107 is a pressure and temperature sensor expansion board that comes with TI’s LaunchPad development board series. This expansion board contains TI’s TMP107 and TMP117 IC’s (integrated circuits). It is usually chosen to be used as an evaluation board for the pressure and temperature sensing and for teaching purposes.

The BOOSTXL-TMP107 expansion board can be used for applications such as mobile phones, smart home appliances, automotive, medical, industrial and consumer electronics such as pre-defined thresholds for embedded systems. This expansion board can also be used for other functions including buffering, data formatting and data communication. Moreover, it can be used for sensing applications such as general-purpose environmental/industrial system monitoring and control, process control, air conditioning systems, etc.

The BOOSTXL-TMP107 expansion board uses a basic working principle to measure pressure and temperature. The board contains an integrated sensor element named a capacitive active silicon diaphragm. This diaphragm functions as a pressure transducer. The diaphragm is designed in such a way that when a pressure is applied to it, the diaphragm deflects, causing a change in the capacitance of the transducer. This change in capacitance is amplified and converted into an electrical signal, which is then measured by the ICs.

The other part of the expansion board contains a thermistor which measures the temperature of the surrounding environment where the board is placed. The thermistor is a semiconductor device which is used to measure temperatures. The thermistor consists of a material whose resistivity changes with the temperature. The resistance of the thermistor produces a voltage which can be used to provide a measurement of temperature.

Finally, the BOOSTXL-TMP107 expansion board gives us the flexibility to use the pressure measurement and temperature sensing parameters through the Connected LaunchPad. The Connected LaunchPad also allows us to interface with other development boards. The BOOSTXL-TMP107 has all the features required for a reliable evaluation and development of temperature and pressure sensing circuits and allows us to quickly develop, evaluate and debug these applications.
