Optoisolators provide effective electrical isolation between input and output electrical circuits due to the physical separation achieved with an optical interface. CNY17-4-000E is an optoisolator with a photovoltaic output and can be employed in a wide variety of applications, including noise and line isolation, instrumentation, relay and logic interface, and Pulse Width Modulators (PWM).

CNY17-4-000E optoisolators are constructed using a GaAs infrared emitting diode and a NPN phototransistor in a 6-pin dual in-line package with a black housing. The isolation barrier of the device is provided by the air gap between the diode and the transistor. The output stage is in an open collector configuration with a built-in clamp diode to protect against switching inductive loads. The package is designed with a metal shield housing for complete electrical isolation between the input and output, but also provides superior photocoupler linearity and common mode transients rejection. It features a wide 6300VRMS isolation voltage rating between input/output as well as excellent ESD protection (up to ±6kV).

In terms of operating temperature, the CNY17-4-000E has a range of -30°C to 100°C and a response time of 1.2μs for 10%, 90% of the output.
