The DG211BDY-E3 is a broad family of monolithic CMOS signal switches, multiplexers and demultiplexers. With its built-in latch and low RON, the family is ideal for high speed/low noise signal line applications—in communications, instrumentation, and process control.

DG211BDY-E3 devices are single-pole double-throw (SPDT) and single-pole single-throw (SPST) switches and multiplexers (16- and 32-channel versions) and demultiplexers (4-channel versions). Each device has three, four, or five analog control inputs (A1, A2…A5) used to select one of eight, 16, 32, or four output channels. For all devices, the A1 and A2 inputs are available in either pin or a common, while the A3 through A5 inputs are available in BCD/ASCII or in pin configuration.

The control circuit includes a high-speed CMOS logic latch and all the necessary manual input pins. Where multiple control inputs are available, the control logic circuitry minimizes any external decoding logic needed. The logic inputs are typically logic 0 for unselected channels, and logic 1 for selecting a channel. The open drain output enable control allows level conversion with minimal loading.

DG211BDY-E3 family provides excellent electrical performance with low ON-state resistance, tight delta ON-state resistance matching and maximum off-state leakage. The switches, multiplexers and demultiplexers all provide good switching speed characteristics and low static power dissipation. When used as switches, their low ON-state resistance, low off-state leakage and fast switching speed make them ideal for high speed/low noise/high reliability applications.

DG211BDY-E3 family also has two series, the DG211BDY and DG211BDY-T, with and without an internal pull-up resistor. The internal pull-up resistor is designed to optimize performance for switching applications and provide better overall switching speed.

DG211BDY-E3 family is widely used in many applications such as communications, instrumentation, and process control. In communications, it is used for channel switching, multiplexing/de-multiplexing signals, and level shifting. In instrumentation, these devices are used in measurement and testing equipment, medical instruments and diagnostic equipment. They are also used in automotive systems and industrial process control systems.

The working principle of DG211BDY-E3 is based on a CMOS logic latch. With the input of analog control signals A1 and A2, the logic latch produces a logic 0 or 1 to activate a particular switch and the corresponding output channel is enabled. The output enable control provides level conversion and minimal loading. The internal pull-up resistor further enhances the performance of the switch.
