The DS1004Z-3+ is a monolithic programmable delay line which is widely used in Clock/Timing - Delay Lines applications. It is a delay line integrated circuit with a minimum delay of 1 ms. It consists of flip-flops whose clock outputs (Q) are connected together in chain fashion. This delay line can take a wide range of clock signals in, such as, simple clock signals, square waves and other waveforms, determine an average cycle time, then generate a delayed output whose delay time is proportional to the clock cycle time. This advantage makes it highly practical for use in a variety of applications, including timers, automatic test equipment and timing logic. The DS1004Z-3+ can also be used as a variable time-base oscillator in many timing-dependent circuits.
The DS1004Z-3+ utilizes two-level latch architecture. An external clock signal is applied to the CLOCK IN pin from where it is directed to the input of an asynchronous D flip-flop. At the D input of the D flip-flop, the level of the clock signal is activated for a certain delay time of 1 ms. During this time, the D input turns on and activates the D flip-flop, which in turn sends the clock signal to the output of the chip. The output of that chip is then directed to the next D flip-flop, again with a certain delay of 1 ms. This process of continuously activating the D flip-flop and sending the clock output to the next stage of the chain is repeated until the required delay is obtained. The resulting output is taken from the last stage of the chain.
The DS1004Z-3+ is a monolithic programmable delay line which consists of a series of clocked latches that creates an adjustable delay of 1 ms or greater. Each latch receives an input signal which is followed by a certain delay. The design of the circuit also makes it suitable for use in multiple applications as it is highly reliable and consumes less power.
