The DS1620+ is a widely used temperature sensor which is both analog and digital in output. It has a wide range of applications from industrial to consumer and hobbyist applications. It is able to accurately measure temperatures from -55°C to +125°C with a precision of 0.25°C. The device is also extremely versatile, allowing for free-running measurements and also timed intervals according to user commands.The working principle of the DS1620+ is based on thermoelectricity, which is the process of transforming temperature to electric potential energy. Thermal energy from a body or environment is converted into electrical energy by the device and, with the presence of an operational amplifier, amplified to produce a voltage or current proportional to the temperature at the location of the device.The device consists of an integrated thermistor consisting of a ceramic substrate and metal contacts. On the face of the device is a quiesclear and a reference thermistor. When a temperature change occurs, the thermal resistance of the quiesclear thermistor changes in relation to the reference thermistor and a small voltage is created at the output of the operational amplifier. The magnitude of the voltage is proportional to the temperature of the environment. This voltage can be converted to a digital signal using an analog-to-digital converter.The DS1620+ can be used in temperature monitoring and control applications. It is waterproof and UV-resistant, which enables it to be used in outdoor environments. Additionally, the device runs autonomously and efficiently, consuming less than 1mW of power when communicating with a microcontroller.The device is available as a dual temperature/humidity sensor with the addition of a humidity sensor on the device. This feature allows for the monitoring of both temperature and humidity in a single discrete device.The DS1620+ is a highly reliable, versatile and cost-effective solution for temperature monitoring and control applications.
