Working Principle
The EL7242CSZ-T7 is designed to provide a robust and efficient base for driving switching devices. The gate driver consists of two half bridges, one each for the positive and negative switching operations. The half bridge contains two comparators, a voltage reference and a slew rate control circuit. The comparator on the positive side compares the external voltage with the reference voltage, while the comparator on the negative side compares the external voltage with the zero volts.When the external voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the comparator triggers the switch to allow current to flow from the positive power supply, leading to the gate of the device turning on. Once the voltage drops below the reference voltage, the comparator turns off the switch, leading to the gate turning off. Similarly, the comparator on the negative side will trigger the switch to turn on when the external voltage drops below zero volts and turn off when it rises above it.
In addition to that, the device also has other protective features. An over-voltage protection circuit will detect an over-voltage situation and shut off the gate driver. Similarly, a low voltage lockout comparator will shut off the device when the voltage drops too low. Lastly, a thermal shutdown circuit will automatically shut off the device when the temperature reaches a critical level.
