Working Principle

FAN7601GX is a synchronous buck switching regulator with an integrated power switch and a phase lock loop (PLL). The device supports an input voltage varying from 4.2V to 18V and provides up to 3A of continuous output current. When the input voltage exceeds the threshold voltage, the PLL is enabled and the internal power switch is enabled through the PWM comparator so that the output voltage can be regulated.

When the device is enabled, the power MOSFET is activated and the inductor stores energy into the output capacitor until the voltage of the output capacitor reaches the desired output set point. When the power MOSFET is turned on, the current in the inductor increases and the energy stored in the inductor is transferred to the output capacitor increasing its voltage.

When the voltage of the output capacitor goes above the desired output set point, the power MOSFET shuts off and the output voltage is maintained by the output capacitor. The energy stored in the inductor is discharged into the freewheeling diode and the inductor’s current begins to decrease. The cycle repeats each time the PWM comparator switches the power MOSFET on or off.

FAN7601GX also includes advanced protections such as under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection, over-current protection and short-circuit protection to ensure the device operates safely at all times.
