GBL02-E3/51 Working Principle

A bridge rectifier allows AC signals to be converted into DC signals by using two sets of four diodes arranged in bridge configuration. The bridge has two inputs, a positive input and a negative input and one output. When an alternating voltage signal is applied to the input of the bridge, the diodes alternately switch on and off, allowing the waveform to be rectified.When the positive input voltage of the rectifier is higher than its negative input voltage, the left side diodes (D1 and D3) will be in their forward biased condition and the right side diodes (D2 and D4) will be in their reverse biased condition. Since the left side diodes are in their forward bias condition, they will be conducting, allowing the positive input voltage to be transferred to the output. On the other hand, since the right side diodes are in their reverse bias condition, they will be non-conducting and thus no current will flow from the negative input to the output.Conversely, when the negative input voltage is higher than the positive input voltage, the right side diodes (D2 and D4) will be in their forward bias condition and the left side diodes (D1 and D3) will be in their reverse bias condition. This will cause the current to flow from the negative input to the output.
