GP10DE-M3/54 Application Field and Working Principle

GP10DE-M3/54 is a series of single rectifiers, which is made from high voltage, high reliability epitaxial planar technology. They are available in SMD package with wide range type from –200V to –1000V and large surge current capability. Due to its low forward voltage drop, reverse leakage current and thermal resistance performance, it is ideal for large applications such as consumer and telecommunication equipment, automotive components and industrial electronics.

Application Field

GP10DE-M3/54 is ideal for consumer and telecommunication equipment applications because it is composed of high reliability epitaxial planar technology and provides protection against transient overvoltages and discrete components. Moreover, its low knee voltage and reverse leakage current performance, at 125°C junction temperature, is excellent even under severe thermal conditions. Moreover, its large forward surge current capability enables the rectifier to address inrush current problem in harshest environments.

It also suits automotive components and industrial equipment applications; it has a wide range of capabilities such as high reverse breakdown voltage, low forward voltage drop, good thermal stability, excellent thermal cycling characteristics, and optimized surface mount packages with integrated heatsink. Therefore, it is commonly used in power supplies, automotive alternators, rectifiers, linears and solenoid drivers, relays, touch screens, computer terminals, air conditioner controllers and many other automotive components and industrial equipment.

Working Principle

GP10DE-M3/54 is a single phase rectifier, which works based on the principle of rectification. The device is composed of two diodes, one anode and one cathode, connected in a series arrangement. When the DC source is connected, the voltage applied on the device gets divided between the two connected diodes.

The current passes through the anode to cathode due to the presence of a small built-in electric field, and the current is then rectified. Thus, the anode of the device acts as an R-load, rectifying the incoming AC power to DC. When the anode and cathode voltages reach equilibrium, the device ceases to perform rectification and becomes non-conductive.

The device being rectifier can also be used as a voltage regulator in certain applications, such as providing power to home appliances. The device will reduce the AC voltage input to a steady DC voltage output. It is also used in power supplies of electronic devices. It is due to the presence of very small built-in electric fields and the rectifier working on its own which makes it more reliable and efficient than resistors.
