Working Principle

The GP10GE-E3/73 operates according to a simple working principle: when the voltage through it is sufficient to forward-bias the junction between the two components, the diode conducts current in one direction, while blocking current in the opposite direction. This forward-bias can be provided by either a voltage source or a current source. Further, the junction between the two components behaves as a closed switch when it is forward-biased and opens the switch when there is reverse bias. This, in turn, is achieved through the injection of charge carriers, which are the carriers of electric current.

The GP10GE-E3/73 rectifier is designed to minimize the reverse leakage current. This is achieved by controlling the shape of the depletion region. This shape controls the number of carriers that can traverse the junction and provide conduction. The shape is manipulated through the use of a doping profile, which can be adjusted to reduce the number of minority carriers present in the depletion region, thus reducing the reverse leakage current.
