GTL2002DC125 is a chip in the Logic – Translators, Level Shifters family. It is designed for applications where the output signals require translating between levels of logic families. The output voltage levels are determined by the low voltage translator “VLT” pin, and required external components. This device provides an integrated High Level Input with Voltage Shifter (HLI). This HLI accepts up to +12V LVTTL/LVCMOS or up to 5.5V PECL inputs.

Working Principle

The GTL2002DC125 is based on a low voltage level translator interface. It contains two sets of logic families with two different threshold voltages. The device can operate within a wide supply voltage range ranging from 3.3 to 6.5V, and with a minimum output voltage level of 1.25V. The low-voltage internal circuitry is used to provide a voltage translation between the two logic threshold voltages. When the LVTTL/LVCMOS input is low (‘0’), the high threshold voltage is used, and the low-voltage level handshaker (LVLH) is asserted. When the LVTTL/LVCMOS input is high (‘1’), the low threshold voltage is used and the low-voltage level handshaker (LVLL) is asserted.

The low voltage interface also supports High Level Inputs (HLI). HLI is used as an input signal of the logic family switch and the logic level is determined by the Low Voltage Translator voltage. HLI works in both LVTTL/LVCMOS and PECL environments. HLI input would assume the logic level defined by the low voltage Interface.

The GTL2002DC125 also contains a Voltage Shifter and a High Level Output (HLO). When the output state is low, a VLT resistor is connected in series between the two logic level thresholds creating a voltage shift. The states of VLT pins will be determined by the logic level at the input and any resistive loading on the lines. The VLT is internally tied to VDD for HLO. The HLO logic level is +Vdd and the output current source will switch from VDD to ground.

The GTL2002DC125 is also equipped with an integrated output power amplifier, which boosts the output current to drive the output device and eliminates the need for an external buffer. This amplifier provides up to 4mA of output sink current and up to 10mA of output source current.

In addition, the GTL2002DC125 provides an internal fail-safe logic and two integrated ESD protection diode. The fail-safe logic ensures that a valid logic state is maintained even if the device enters an unknown power-up condition. The two ESD diodes protect the output and input pins from static shocks. The protection diodes can withstand up to 28V contact or atmospheric discharge and up to 6.5KV charge device model.
