The HIP6301EVAL2 is an Evaluation Board – DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply). It is used in switching applications for controlling a wide range of power, from hundreds of milliwatts to tens of kilowatts.
This versatile Evaluation Board is designed to help evaluate the functionality of the Hip6301, a high-performance current-mode PWM controller. It is equipped with two sets of MOSFETs to provide better efficiency in both AC/DC and DC/DC converters. The Evaluation Board also has built-in protection features such as over-current, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection, providing a safe and reliable testing platform.
The HIP6301EVAL2\'s features can support a wide range of applications, including industrial automation, machine tools, home appliance, consumer electronics, instrumentations, medical systems, LED and power module applications. It is also equipped with internal components that can be easily replaced to meet specific application requirements.
The working principle of the Evaluation Board is based on the high-performance current-mode PWM controller. The HIP6301EVAL2 can be used to generate a switching signal whose switching frequency can be adjustable from approximately 70 KHz to maximum of 200 KHz.
Once the switching signal is generated, it is sent to two sets of power transistors to drive the power MOSFET. This switching signal acts as the power for the output stage, which produces a desired output voltage. The output voltage is determined by the duty cycle of the switching signal, which is adjustable from 0 to 100%. The switching frequency can also be adjusted using the built-in oscillator.
The evaluation board utilizes a feedback method to detect the output voltage of the converter. An error amplifier is used to compare the desired output voltage to the actual output voltage. When the actual output voltage is higher than the desired voltage, the feedback signal causes the duty cycle of the PWM signal to decrease, reducing the power of the power MOSFET and resulting in a decrease in the output voltage. When the output voltage is below the desired voltage, the duty cycle of the PWM increases, thus increasing the power of the MOSFET and resulting in an increase in output voltage.
The HIP6301EVAL2 Evaluation Board has several protection features that ensure safe and reliable operation. It is equipped with over-current, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection functions. The board can also be set to auto-restart in the case of a fault.
