The HIP6521CB-T is one of the most widely used voltage regulators in the power management and integrated circuit (PMIC) market. This voltage regulator can be used in many applications, from industrial to consumer electronics. It is a versatile three-terminal linear regulator, with both a low quiescent current and low dropout voltage, as well as low EMI Ripple and reactive transient voltage characteristics. It has many features, such as a 0.8-volt reference voltage, adjustable current limit, thermal shutdown, and a built-in voltage clamp.
The HIP6521CB-T is a low-power integrated circuit which offers the ideal performance in both linear and switching regulator applications. For example, when powering a 2.5V device, a Linear Regulator would be limited to an efficiency of 80%, whereas the switch mode power supply would be able to achieve up to 95%.
The HIP6521CB-T can also be used in a step-up or boost converter application, where higher-power components are needed to reach the desired output voltage. In this case, the output voltage can be adjusted to reach values much higher than the normal 2.5V and 10V limits. This type of application is commonly used in car audio systems, where the voltage output needs to be boosted from 12V to around 18V in order to power high-powered amplifiers.
As a 3-terminal regulator, the HIP6521CB-T utilizes a single output pin and two inputs to regulate the output voltage, meaning less components and less space needed. The voltage output of the device is directly proportional to the reference voltage input, allowing for easy voltage selections depending on the application.
