Attenuators are commonly used in a variety of systems and devices. The HMC985A is a high power Variable or Fixed Attenuator made from Ferrite technology, that has been designed to fit within stringent space and power constraints. The HMC985A is composed of a set of internal attenuator modules, with each module occupying a single package configuration of two or four poles in a 7”. The modules are housed in a cast aluminum casing with anti-corrosive coating and the internal structure is designed for optimum heat sinking. This attenuator provides a wide frequency range of 25MHz to 10GHz, which makes it suitable for many applications in a wide range of fields, including telecommunications, industrial, aerospace, and medical. The attenuation range is from 0.05dB to 20dB, with a power handling of 200W.
The HMC985A consists of a single 8-pole slide switch assembly that allows the user to adjust the attenuation level. The adjustment is made by sliding the switch assembly, thereby controlling the amount of attenuating power from the input source. This is accomplished by using an internal circuit with four series and four parallel resistors.
