An optoisolator or optocoupler is a semiconductor device formed by combining an LED and a phototransistor into the same package, which minimize electrical noise, and provide electrical isolation between input and output signals. In particular, Triac, SCR Output optoisolator like IL410-X007T is widely applied for controlling AC circuit with digital logic signal.

The IL410-X007T has a minimum forward trigger current IF(min) of 3 mA, maximum forward trigger current IF(max) of 15 mA, and gain GT of 0.8 A/mA.
When an AC line voltage is applied to the specified level, the forward trigger current IF increases, and the output photocoupler turns on. Then, the output current is determined by the relation of IF and GT. The output photocoupler is then turned off in one half cycle when the reverse voltage of the output photocoupler is equal to 0.9V. The diagram below shows the relationship of the forward trigger current IF and the output photocoupler turn on time t1, which is equal to one half of the duty cycle D.
Based on the above analysis, IL410-X007T is mainly used in two areas. The first is AC waveform with current detection, such as AC voltage detector, triac phase-shift detector, and phase-shift detector for AC power line switch.
The second is the control of electronic devices or systems, such as motor speed control and on/off switch control. For motor speed control applications, the output photocoupler\'s on time t1, will determine the speed; for on/off switch control applications, the output photocoupler\'s on time t1, can be adjusted to the cycle time, and combined with thyristor or MOSFET output, to form a non-contact switch.
