IL4108 Application Field and Working Principle

The IL4108 is an optically coupled device designed for use as a solid-state, ac to dc switch. It is part of a growing family of optically coupled isolators that use both Triac and SCR output technology. This particular IC is housed in a 4-pin DIP package. The device features a peak blocking voltage of 600V, a VF of 1V, and an LED current of 100mA. It has an operating temperature range of -25C to 85C, and a maximum continuous Collector-Emitter voltage (VEBO) of 5V. The primary function of the IL4108 is to provide a solid-state switch for applications such as motor control, lamp ballasting, relay drivers, etc. The IC is well suited for use as a solid-state AC switch, as it features a low on-state voltage drop and low output capacitance.
