IR 2010PBF Application Field and Working PrincipleIR 2010PBF is a series of gate drivers for power management integrated circuit (PMIC) devices. It is designed to reliably control, switch and drive power MOSFETs and IGBTs with very low gate-to-source resistance. This product is particularly suitable for switching applications where high edge rate and low static power dissipation are required.Application FieldsThe IR 2010PBF is compatible with most of the popular PMICs, making it suitable for a broad range of applications such as motor drives, DC/DC converters, DC/AC inverters and other types of power converters. It can also be used for high-frequency switching applications such as solar PV inverters, LED lighting and RGB LED decorative lighting. Additionally, it is suitable for automotive systems such as electric power steering and brake power control.Working PrincipleThe IR 2010PBF is based on a high performance Propel™ gate driver core technology. This technology uses internal circuitry and logic to quickly switch the gate voltage between high- and low-level states while providing high edge rates. The Propel technology also reduce static power dissipation by minimizing gate charge and minimizing gate-to-source capacitance. The gate driver has a very low input and output impedance to minimize ground bounce and provide optimim transient performance. The current output is optimized for switching high-side power MOSFETs at up to 1A. The output can also be connected to low-side circuits and the gate current can be automatically switched between high- and low-side voltages.The IR 2010PBF also provides adjustable dead time of up to 30ns for high-side gate drives and 40ns for low-side gate drives to minimize shoot-through currents. The integrated protection features include latch-off, short circuit protection and temperature shutdown.ConclusionThe IR 2010PBF is an ideal solution for designing high-performance PMIC-based gate drivers.
