IR2136STRPBF Application Field and Working Principle
The IR2136STRPBF is part of the International Rectifier (IR) Gate Drivers family, which are an interface between low-level controller and devices consisting of multiple power transistors. Specially designed to drive high frequency/high power loads, they offer fast propagation delay and minimum dead times. The IR2136STRPBF is built using a bipolar junction technology and features high-side and low-side offers in a variety of package types and is an excellent choice for a variety of high side and low side driver applications.
Product Overview
The IR2136STRPBF is a high-side / low-side driver capable of driving up to 1100V at 1A and providing 15V/ns available current slew-rate. It has a 19-bit duty-cycle PWM interface, dual internal high-side totem-pole drivers, short-circuit shutdown capability for high-side and low-side drivers and is capable of driving N-Channel MOSFETs. The IR2136STRPBF offers a bus current fault monitoring feature that allows the device to monitor the bus current (helpful in fault detection), transition-mode operation (where the motors in the system can operate in torque-mode instead of speed-mode) and exposed thermal pad for efficient thermal performance.
Application Field
The IR2136STRPBF can be used in various application areas such as automotive audio/video systems, battery chargers, industrial drives and robotics, DC-to-DC converters, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and motor control applications. Common applications include dedicated motor drives, PFCs, half-bridge motorbases and 3-phase brushless motors.
Working Principle
The IR2136STRPBF acts as a switch that can be used to increase the speed of a motor or reduce its current draw. It does this by controlling the gate voltage of the transistors, thus controlling the current flow through them. When the total voltage at the motor’s terminals is reduced, the motor speeds up. By controlling the gate voltage, it is possible to reduce the current draw without reducing the voltage at the motor’s terminals. This can improve efficiency of the system.
The IR2136STRPBF is connected to the power source and to the motor’s terminals, and it is connected to the controller. The controller uses Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to determine the gate voltage at any given time. The IR2136STRPBF drives the gate of the desired transistor, which in turn controls the current flow through the motor. For example, when the controller wants to increase the current, it increases the gate voltage, which increases the current draw of the motor.
The IR2136STRPBF can also be used to reduce the current draw of a motor. When the controller wants to reduce the current, it reduces the gate voltage, which reduces the current draw of the motor. This allows the controller to not just control the speed of the motor, but also allows it to control the current draw.
The IR2136STRPBF is a powerful gate driver that can be used in a variety of motor control applications. Its ability to accurately control the gate voltage of the transistors makes it ideal for controlling the speed and current draw of motors, as well as other high-power applications.
