The IRGR4045DTRPBF is part of the International Rectifier\'s medium-voltage/low-side/Trench IGBT family. This IGBT, also known as a field effect transistor (FET) is a three terminal device that has gate, drain and source terminals. This device has a maximum voltage rating of 400V and a collector current of 40A. It is designed to be used in a variety of applications ranging from industrial motor control, lighting, consumer and other consumer applications.

Application Field of IRGR4045DTRPBF

This IGBT device is suitable for AC and DC motor control, high frequency inverters, Power factor correction and high-current/high-voltage DC-DC converters. Moreover, due to its high current capability, it is widely used in applications requiring repetitive switching, such as AC current control and DC lighting applications.

It is an ideal device to be used in major AC and DC motor control applications, like those employed in industrial, home appliance and automobile applications, because of its low forward voltage drop, low switching losses and fast switching speeds. Working Principle of IRGR4045DTRPBF

The IRGR4045DTRPBF is an enhancement mode silicon controlled rectifier (SCR), also known as an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), which relies on the combination of an N-channel FET and an NPN bipolar transistor. It works by applying a positive voltage to the gate terminal while the base voltage of the bipolar transistor remains grounded. The gate voltage then induces a current in the gate-to-source region which causes a conductive channel to form between the drain and the source region. The current then flows through the SCR, with the voltage drop across the device.

The IGBT can be thought of as a switch, with the gate controlling the on/off state. Therefore, in order to switch off the device, the voltage at the gate must be reduced to 0V. Conversely, to switch on the device, the voltage at the gate must be higher than the gate threshold voltage.

Its high voltage rating, low switching loss and fast switching speed makes the IGBT an ideal device for AC and DC motor control, high frequency inverters, Power factor correction and high-current/high-voltage DC-DC conversion applications.
