PMIC - Hot Swap Controllers is classes of the semiconductor devices which used to safely control the power delivery of hot-swap servers by providing inrush current limitation, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, overtemperature protection, and fast transient response. One such device is the ISL61863GCRZ contains an integrated Hot Swap controller, a Rds(on) sense FET and a PWM controller combined with a number of programmable protection functions. It is designed for use on isolated point-of-load (POL) converters. The ISL61863GCRZ is an integrated switcher for systems requiring fast transient response and high efficiency. The wide input voltage range makes it suitable for multiple supply applications, from 4 V to 25 V, and 4 A output current. It features a programmable soft-start to quickly and accurately control the output voltage. It also includes a programmable current limit for automated sequencing, fault protection, and output ramp control. The ISL61863GCRZ Hot Swap controller contains an integrated response circuit and a current sense comparator to accurately control the output voltage of the system. This allows the system to remain power conversion efficient while maximizing safety and reliability. The controller also contains a built-in switching FET and an in-rush current limiter. The Hot Swap controller can be easily configured with an external N-channel MOSFET to safely control the power delivery of hot-swap servers. When the output voltage reaches 0V, the integrated N-channel MOSFET turns off and disconnects the output from the system. To prevent an excessive surge in power, the Hot Swap controller can be programmed with an in-rush limit. This feature sets the maximum current peak allowed on the output during the initial inrush. In addition, the ISL61863GCRZ provides a fast over-current protection (OCP) feature that can react in 10µs. The OCP feature monitors for voltage drops and reacts by rapidly shutting down the MOSFET and the system. The Hot Swap controller also contains three-mode overtemperature protection (OTP) and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) protection. The ISL61863GCRZ Hot Swap controller can be used in a variety of applications including high-current server systems, telecom, industrial, and networking applications. The low dropout (LDO) voltage regulator, high voltage transient protection, and full-protection features make this controller suitable for many applications where safety and performance are paramount. Additionally, its wide input voltage range and 4A high efficiency output capability make it ideal for low-power point-of-load (POL) and distributed power applications.
