ISL6608IRZ-T, a 4A non-inverting buck gate driver with integrated low-side MOSFET, is designed to drive the IGBT switch in synchronous buck applications like those found in computing, telecom, and gaming. This gate driver is rated for a maximum of 4A output current and can operate from an input voltage range of 4.5V to 15V. It is equipped with an integrated Level-Translator that enables the device to drive a wide range of IGBTs and MOSFETs. ISL6608IRZ-T works on the open-drain architecture which provides a fast switching time and low power dissipation. Moreover, it has high-side and low-side discharge pins which allow easy turn-off of the system if required, ensuring high levels of safety.

The working principle of the ISL6608IRZ-T is based on an open-drain architecture. This architecture provides a fast switching speed, as the low side drain is connected to a high current driver, whereas the high side drain remains connected to a source of voltage. On powering the device, the low side MOSFET is activated, which in turn sources current to the load. The high side MOSFET then pulls the current from the load and is turned off, while the low side one stays switched on. In this way, both the MOSFETs are used to drive the gate of each of the transistors. The device is then turned off, when a signal is sent to the high side discharge pin which makes it turn off the high side MOSFET and the low side one turned off due to the pull up resistor. Thus, the entire circuit is switched off, allowing the device to be used in applications where the safety of the components is of utmost importance.
