Evaluation and Demonstration Boards and Kits
The KSZ8091RNA-EVAL is an evaluation and demonstration board set designed to evaluate the KSZ8091RNXL and KSZ8091RNAXL Single-Port 802.11b/g/n Ethernet PHYs. This board set comes with four boards (a permissive main board, two daughter boards, and a reference board). It is constructed with the devices from CODICO’s KS Families. The main board contains two SMA and one mini SMA copper jacks, two SMA, two micro USB, and one RJ45 Ethernet socket. This board also includes a 4-bit DIP switch, an LED, and programmable Push Button switches. The daughter boards include two small antenna boards.The KSZ8091RNA-EVAL board is designed to operate as an IEEE 802.11b/g/n single-port IEEE 802.11 Ethernet PHY. The functioning of this board and its devices is focused on two primary operations: data transmission and signal reception. For data transmission, the KSZ8091RNA-EVAL board helps bridge the gap between a physical (wired) connection and a logical (wireless) connection. The board is designed to translate the digital data signals sent from a personal computer over an Ethernet link into the IEEE 802.11b/g/n radio frequency. It achieves this by generating a carrier wave to modulate the data signal and then transmit it in the form of a radio frequency. The second main purpose of the KSZ8091RNA-EVAL board is to receive signals from the wireless transmitter. The board extracts the modulated data signal from the incoming radio frequency signal and provides an Ethernet connection to the personal computer using a physical wired connection. The KSZ8091RNA-EVAL board can also be used as a bridging device between a router or Access Point (AP) and a personal computer. It can help bridge network traffic from the router or AP to the personal computer using the wireless IEEE 802.11b/g/n connections. In addition, the KSZ8091RNA-EVAL board also has the ability to monitor the usage of the wireless network being used. It can detect the usage of specific channels and assess the signal level to control transmission power. The working principle of the board is connected to the devices on it, where applicable. The KSZ8091RNXL and KSZ8091RNAXL devices use transceivers to transfer data and also include register sets to address and configure the internal signal processing of the devices. This allows the board to be operated in two communications modes, FIFO and Burst/packet. FIFO mode is used for Master/Slave applications, while the Burst mode is used for applications requiring quick response to an instruction. The KSZ8091RNA- EVAL can also trigger the Micro Signal Processor (MSP) controller to run custom built service applications. This board set comes with the necessary tools and software to allow developers to program the processor and test the device functionality and performance. The KSZ8091RNA- EVAL board serves to simplify the development, testing and evaluation of multiple products. It allows users to quickly configure the board to their specific application and gain better understanding of system, device, and other development mechanisms. The commonly used programming and debugging environment for the device supports C/C++, and provides a low-level graphical simulation platform.
