The L6599ATD belongs to PMIC-Power Supply Controllers, Monitors and is designed to regulate the output of a power supply. This power supply controller incorporates pre-bias, fast line transient, and load-dump protection features. It is a low-voltage power supply supervisor IC, providing a complete power-on, power OFF and reset control for Power Supply and Power Management applications. L6599ATD controllers ensure the reliable start-up of microcontrollers when applied to a wide voltage range of 3V-6V with its 350mA current sink capacity. It accurately supervises Reset and Supply Voltage, providing a 3V-6V hysteresis, low current consumption features. It also offers part-specific features such as burst mode operation, extra S/R delay, output drive capacity and parts option selection dependent functions.
Working Principle
The L6599ATD monitors and controls the power-on and power-off sequence of a power supply. It monitors and compares the applied voltage against the values set by the user. When the voltage reaches the rise threshold voltage, the RESET pin goes low, indicating that the supply voltage has reached the preset voltage threshold. The RESET pin will go high after a delay. This delay can be extended if needed. When the voltage drops below the fall threshold voltage, the RESET pin is driven low, indicating that the supply voltage has reached the preset voltage fall threshold.
The RESET output can also be used to drive MOSFETS for power supply sequencing. When the supply voltage rises above the fall threshold, the Power FET is ON, and the controller drives the RESET output low to signal the microcontroller to start the boot-up sequence. When the voltage falls below the fall threshold, the power FET is OFF, and the controller deasserts the RESET output. The controller also offers a low-voltage pre-bias start-up option, allowing the controller to start in a pre-biased state, rather than in a single-bit-low state.
Furthermore, the L6599ATD incorporates a supply voltage monitor and automatic shutdown feature, allowing the controller to generate a reset and controlled power-down of the system in case of a supply voltage drop below the shutdown threshold. The controller offers selectable de-assert values for the reset output, ensuring the correct power-on and power-off sequence.
In addition, the L6599ATD has a fast line transient protection feature, allowing it to detect and limit rapid changes in line voltage. This protects the controller from false triggering due to line transient overshoots and undershoots. It also features load dump protection and inrush current protection, allowing it to protect the system from overvoltage surges and inrush current.
