The LM25018MR-EVM is an evaluation board designed to study and evaluate the working principles and application field of the LM25018MR, a high-frequency synchronized buck controller designed for offline switch mode power supplies (SMPS). The product advantages of the LM25018MR include a wide input voltage range, a hybrid-mode soft-start for high power supplies, low-side regulated Voltage Output (VOUT) sense, and a parametric monitoring system.
The LM25018MR-EVM evaluation board enables the LM25018MR to be configured and tested with a set of user-selectable components. Using the evaluation board, users can evaluate the benefits of the product by changing operating conditions such as input voltage, output voltage, output current, and other setpoint values. The board also provides a bridge between the user\'s system layout and the electrical properties of the LM25018MR. The LM25018MR-EVM is a versatile platform to quickly configure and test the LM25018MR.
The LM25018MR-EVM includes two buck-type switching regulator circuits, one using the LM25018MR and another using the LM25012R for comparison. These two circuits produce isolated outputs of +12 V at up to 4 A, or +3.3 V at up to 5 A. An additional +5 V output can be generated, but the current is limited to less than 1 A, while a −12 V output is also available. The output voltages of all three buck-type regulators are continuously adjustable from 0 V to the respective output voltage via an external potentiometer. The DC/DC Section of the evaluation board contains a low-side current sense and clamped input for the LM25018MR, as well as a negative output voltage (VOUT) sense connection for the LM25012R.
In addition to the two buck-type regulator circuits, the LM25018MR-EVM also contains circuitry for a flyback-type AC/DC converter providing an isolated +15 VDC output. The flyback circuit is optimized to +12 V input voltage range. A synchronous rectifier is used for higher efficiency and noise reduction. The output voltage is continuously adjustable from 0 V to 15 VDC.
The LM25018MR-EVM also has a serial interface for dynamic control of the circuit. This serial interface allows the user to write data to the registers of the controller via serial communication. This feature provides the ability to change output voltages, setpoints, and other parameters while the board is running.
The LM25018MR features Mode-Adaptive Digital Control (MADC). MADC is a sophisticated algorithm that automatically adapts the control loop parameters to the operating conditions. This feature eliminates the need for manual set-up, as parameters such as the peak current, temperature coefficient, and proportional-integral (PI) coefficient can be pre-programmed using the serial interface. The MADC control scheme also helps improve the line and load regulation of the power supply.
The LM25018MR-EVM can be used in a wide variety of applications due to its wide input voltage and adjustable output voltages. It can be used in AC/DC converters, battery-powered systems, and all types of SMPS. It is ideal for exploring the features of the LM25018MR, testing different configurations, and for rapid prototyping.
