The LM2574N-3.3 is a monolithic DC-DC switching regulator designed to provide improved performance and reduced board space requirements when compared to standard three-terminal linear regulators. It consists of a current-mode PWM controller, oscillator, reference, error amplifier, voltage clamp and other circuit blocks. The LM2574N-3.3 can supply up to 800 mA of output current and can step-down from a 6V input to any regulated output voltage, from 0.8V to 10V, making it ideal for a variety of applications such as personal computers, notebooks, peripherals and other equipment.

The primary benefit of using a switching regulator as opposed to a linear regulator is the efficiency. The transition from one regulation state to another results in less power loss due to power dissipation, thereby increasing efficiency.
