PMIC - Voltage Regulators - Linear - LM2936MX-3.3

The LM2936MX-3.3 is a linear voltage regulator from the PMIC (Power Management IC) family. This voltage regulator can be used to regulate any input voltage greater than 3.3 V to 3.3 V for circuit protection and compatibility with the 3.3 V logic standard. It’s a popular choice for powering components like microcontrollers, FPGAs, RF transceivers, Bluetooth modules, Ethernet modules, and Wi-Fi modules.The LM2936MX-3.3 consists of two parts, the rectifier and the regulator. The rectifying portion consists of an internal Schottky diode, which converts an AC input voltage to the initial DC output voltage. The regulating portion is a low dropout (LDO) voltage regulator, which takes the initial DC output voltage and reduces it to the desired 3.3 V output voltage. The LM2936MX-3.3 can provide up to 500 mA of output current.In addition to the 3.3 V output voltage, the LM2936MX-3.3 also features an enable/disable control pin. This pin can be used to toggle the output voltage on or off, allowing system designers to easily enable and disable the regulator. The enable/disable pin is active low, meaning it should be kept “high” for normal operation.The LM2936MX-3.3 also offers current limiting protection, which protects the entire system from accidental over-current. The current limiting protection is implemented by monitoring the voltage across an internal sensing resistor. If the voltage reaches a specified limit, the IC will shut down the output voltage and enter a latch-off state, preventing further damage to the system. The enable/disable pin can be toggled to reset the device and re-enable the output voltage.The LM2936MX-3.3 can also be used for power sequencing in parallel power supplies. This feature allows system designers to create a more efficient circuit design by dividing the load into multiple regulated voltage sources. The LM2936MX-3.3 enables power sequencing by using a reference voltage from the output of each regulator and comparing it to the reference voltage from the other regulator. If the output voltage from one regulator is higher than the other, the LM2936MX-3.3 will disable the output voltage until the voltage level of the other regulator is equal to or greater than the first.The LM2936MX-3.3 can also be used for thermal protection. This feature protects the circuitry from damage due to excessive temperature. The thermal protection feature is implemented by manually setting a temperature threshold and monitoring internal temperatures with an integrated temperature sensor. If the temperature exceeds the threshold, the device will shut down the output voltage until the temperature returns to a safe level.The LM2936MX-3.3 offers a wide input voltage range (2.6 V to 16 V), low output noise (7 mVrms), low quiescent current, high line and load regulation, a wide operating temperature range (–40 °C to 125 °C), an integrated reference and feedback divider, and a shutdown input pin.In conclusion, the LM2936MX-3.3 is a highly integrated linear voltage regulator from the PMIC family, perfect for 3.3 V power supply design.
