The LM337D2TR4G is a Adjustable Negative Voltage Regulator, representing a part of BRD2903G family. This regulator can reduce the positive voltage into a regulated negative value that has the same magnitude as input voltage, but with an opposite sign. It can be used to generate any negative voltage within a range of -1.2V to -37V. Its insensitivity to the output voltage ripple and its superior ac line regulation make the regulator ideal for use in high-performance applications.

Application Field

The LM337D2TR4G is mainly suited for negative voltage regulator applications such as battery charging, post-regulator for switching power supplies, local on card regulators, and low-dropout applications. Working Principle of LM337D2TR4G

The LM337D2TR4G is a three-terminal negative adjustable voltage regulator that can provide output current up to 1.5A. It is available in a TO-220 package, and it consists of two series connected Darlington transistors, two temperature-compensated zener references, and an adjust terminal. It is mainly used to provide a regulated negative voltage with an adjustable output range of -1.2V below the input voltage to -37V. When the output voltage drops beyond the upper limit of its resistive divider network, the device begins to operate in its linear region, in which the current is proportional to the voltage drop on the output

The LM337D2TR4G consists of two Darlington transistors, two temperature-compensated zener references, and an adjust terminal. These components form a voltage regulator circuit, which stabilizes the output voltage when the input voltage varies. The zener references are designed to provide a constant reference voltage to the regulator circuit. The Darlington transistors form a cascoded current source; the base current of one transistor is sourced from the gate of the other. The output voltage is set by a resistive divider network connected across the adjust terminal and the output terminal.

In normal operation, the output voltage is maintained by the negative feedback loop. When the output voltage drops too low, the voltage comparator detects this and increases the base current of the Darlington transistors. This in turn increases the current through the emitter-base junction, which increases the output voltage. When the output voltage increases beyond the upper the limitation of the divider network, the control loop is broken and the device begins to operate in its linear region, in which the current is proportional to the voltage drop across the output. This current response helps to maintain the output voltage even when the load current varies widely.
