Linear - Comparators
The LM339ADG4 is a Linear - Comparator, commonly used in electronic applications where flip-flop and relay systems are used. Comparators are operational amplifiers specifically packaged and designed to provide a direct output to discrete logic or flip-flop circuitry upon comparison of two input signals. LM339ADG4 is a single channel device with an operating range of +3V to +30V, and can be used as high speed, single supply, low power Schmitt trigger. Working Principle
The LM339ADG4 uses two independent voltage comparators to compare two independent input signals. The output of the comparator will be either logic high or logic low, depending on whether the voltage present on one of the inputs is greater than that present on the other input. The differential input voltage should be between 0V and 30V, and the output will be between 0V and 5V. If a third input is provided and it is at a voltage greater than a preset reference voltage, the output will be logic low.
The comparator can operate with an input voltage between 0 and +30V, and it will respond immediately to the input voltage regardless of the input current. This is possible because it has an open loop gain of 1000, which is much higher than that of a conventional operational amplifier. This open loop gain means that any change in the input voltage will be immediately reflected in the output voltage, regardless of the bias current. The output will have a switching time of less than 15 microseconds, with a rise time of 6 microseconds and a fall time of 8 microseconds.
