The LM5008ASD/NOPB is a high-performance adaptive frequency current-mode PWM controller that can deliver up to 150V of DC output voltage and is suitable for a wide range of power converters.This IC is capable of regulating current up to 6.5A with a wide range of load current.This IC operates in an adaptive frequency current mode and contains an integrated linear regulator for minimum load current regulation.This IC uses an on-chip SR latch to protect the load from over voltage.

Application Field and Working Principle

The LM5008ASD/NOPB is a high-performance adaptive frequency current-mode PWM controller ideal for Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) and DC-DC buck converters. It provides a robust and adaptive frequency current-mode control with low external parts count, low noise and jitter, stiff output voltage regulation and optimal efficiency for various load conditions.

Its wide operating frequency range (300 kHz to 2MHz) and on-chip adaptive frequency control allow it to work with a wide variety of inductor sizes and material types. It also features an over current protection (OCP) circuit and a skip cycle PWM technique to reduce peak current and ripple current.

The operating principle of this IC is simple. The LM5008ASD/NOPB measures the incoming voltage using the sense resistor. The IC then compares the measured voltage to an internal reference and generates a proportional Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal which is able to control the output voltage. This voltage is then fed back to the IC, which uses the feedback loop to regulate the output voltage. If the output voltage exceeds the nominal voltage, the IC will automatically shut down the output. The IC features high frequency oscillator for control of the switching frequency and current and voltage loop for control of the output current and voltage.
