Application Field and Working Principle of LM5015MHX/NOPB

LM5015MHX/NOPB is a device belonging to the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) family and it is a part of the DC DC Switching Regulators range. The device is designed to provide an output voltage of 5V with a switching frequency of 1.2MHz and up to 2A output current. This device integrates all the necessary blocks for the voltage regulation of step down converters, eliminating the need for external components. The dedicated integrated blocks include a high-side switch, a low-side switch, a driver circuit, a voltage reference, a voltage clamp and an alternating current controller. The output voltage is manually adjustabe, providing several methods for its control such as PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), analog control or digital control. The intended application of the device is, but not limited to, the cyclic control of the output voltage with four different modes of operation, ranging from high efficiency to low input currents or ripple.The device is able to operate current feedback and voltage mode control, allowing the user to select between the two. It also includes the necessary multiple current sensing, over-voltage sensing, soft-start and gate driver protection components. The LM5015MHX/NOPB incorporates the high-power MOSFETs, tailored to withstand the typical voltage and current swings encountered in buck converters and switching regulators. The device also offers transient protection and wide temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, as well as feature a “Hi-C conditions” at the output voltage when switching at 1.2MHz.In terms of power consumption, LM5015MHX/NOPB is a very efficient device, designed to save power and reduce system cost in a variety of applications. It offers high efficiency at the highest switching frequency and features low-on-resistance at the switching nodes. The device is highly robust, with the power-gate output driver circuit able to drive up to 8A loads, including multiple output stages and capacitive loads. The working principle of LM5015MHX/NOPB is based on the use of feedback and voltage mode control type pulse width modulation (PWM). It works by measuring the output current, comparing it to a reference voltage and generating a pulse-width-modulated signal. This signal is used to drive the high and low side switches that control the voltage at the output node.The output voltage is continuously measured, allowing the device to adjust to different conditions and make adjustments when needed. The LM5015MHX/NOPB is specifically designed to handle high voltage shifts on the output node, as well as providing robust short-circuit protection.
