The LM5008SD/NOPB is a Cost-Effective and Highly-Integrated Synchronous Fixed Frequency Step-Down DC-DC Converter that is ideal for use as a non-isolated POL regulator. It uses a wide 5.5V to 40V input voltage range and provides up to 8 Amps of output current. It features a single stage topology, integrated power switches, and a rich set of features and protections. The device does not require an additional output inductor making it simpler to design-in. The LM5008SD/NOPB is capable of driving multiple outputs with equal voltages making it versatile for powering point-of-load (POL) regulators, FPGA/ASIC core supplies and multiple rail low-voltage power systems.

LM5008SD/NOPB Working Principle

The LM5008SD/NOPB is a switching regulator that utilizes a fixed frequency synchronous buck-boost topology. This is the simplest and most efficient way to convert a high input voltage to a regulated lower output voltage. In a buck-boost converter, when the input voltage is higher than the output voltage the converter acts as a step-down regulator, and when the input voltage is lower than the output voltage it acts as a step-up regulator. Since the LM5008SD/NOPB is a synchronous switching regulator, it is able to achieve higher efficiency than conventional regulator types.
