LM5022EVAL/NOPB is an evaluation board for the LM5022, a monolithic switch mode power supply (SMPS) controller. The board furnishes an efficient, relatively compact and configurable non-isolated offline SMPS design.

Evaluation boards are meant to facilitate easy prototyping of a design with minimal development effort. You can use the LM5022EVAL/NOPB to quickly evaluate the functionality of the LM5022 and adjust its parameters to fit the particular needs of the application. The board is especially ideal for designs that require adjustable voltage outputs, such as computer power supplies.

The LM5022 is a high-performance SMPS controller with a built-in peak currentmode (PCM) controller. The LM5022 is also highly configurable, with the ability to adjust the underlying switching technique, compensation values, and compensation loop bandwidth, enabling precise control over output voltage, current, and regulation.

The LM5022EVAL/NOPB board implements a typical nonisolated buck or forward SMPS converter with an adjustable fixed output voltage. It works with either a +5V, +12V or +24V input voltage supply. Its output voltage can be adjusted from 0V to a maximum of the input voltage. The board also features a combination of two power MOSFETs for higher efficiency, and provides both load and output current monitoring.

The LM5022EVAL/NOPB board uses the LM5022 SMPS controller to regulate the output voltage. The LM5022 is capable of operating at frequencies up to 200kHz and can be configured to use either discontinuous or continuous conduction modes (DCM or CCM). The controller is capable of driving N-channel and P-channel power MOSFETs, and includes hysteretic current regulation for improved system efficiency.

The LM5022EVAL/NOPB board also includes support components for current sensing, output voltage regulation, voltage programming and protection. Two current sense resistors (R₁₁ and R18) are used for output current sensing. An RC snubber network across the MOSFETs is used to minimize switching losses. The board also includes a voltage programming resistor (R17) which sets the output voltage. The board has an additional resistor (R19) to shut down the MOSFETs by regulating the internal bias voltage.

In addition, the board features multiple protection mechanisms to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the controller. It includes an over-temperature protection circuit, as well as over-current protection and under-voltage lockout protection. The controller’s current limit and sense resistor can be adjusted to suit the application’s power requirements.

The LM5022EVAL/NOPB board can be used for a variety of applications in both AC and DC supplies, including LED drivers, AC Adaptors, computer power supplies, and many more. Thanks to its configurability, the board can be used to create efficient, adjustable non-isolated SMPS designs that can be easily tested and evaluated.
