The LNK6418K AC / DC current regulator and switcher circuits are designed for offline applications. They are categorized as PMIC- AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers. The main application fields for them are constant voltage and constant current, offline LED drivers and power stabilization involving multiple power supplies. The regulators offer the desirable features and functions of high-frequency switching with line regulation and load regulation.
With the LNK6418K, we are provided with multiple adjustable electrical characteristics for our products. These electrical characteristics include input voltage range, output current range, and output voltage range. They also offer an adjustable frequency of up to 500kHz and adjustable line and load regulation that are ideal for applications requiring excellent power stability. In addition, the chip has built-in protection circuits that protects against output overvoltage, overcurrent, short circuits, and overtemperature.
The working principle of the LNK6418K is based off of the fact that a PWM controller cannot regulate a DC output. As a result, a high-frequency current mode control technique is used in order to regulate the output voltage or current in a DC system. The regulation achieved is based on the increase or decrease of the internal oscillator running frequency and the ramp slope of the input voltage. The oscillator core voltage is varied as the output of the circuit that determines the amplitude of the PWM signal.
The working prinicple of the LNK6418K IC consists of five main stages. The first stage is an oscillator which generates the clock signal for the entire circuit. The second stage is the Error Amplifier that compares the output voltage of the system to the reference voltage. This stage controls the operations of the third stage, the Pulse Width Modulation comparator. The fourth stage is a driver which generates the PWM output. This stage also controls the ON and OFF times of the output FET. The final stage is a logic block which controls the duties cycle generated by the driver in order to control the output voltage or current.
The LNK6418K provides a great deal of flexibility in the design of voltage or current regulator circuits due to its adjustable parameters. For example, we can use the adjustable PWM frequency to test and find the optimal frequency response that best suits the application. Similarly, we can use the adjustable line and load regulation parameters to suit different system requirements. Moreover, the built-in protection circuit provides additional safety measures that deter any unexpected system failures. Thanks to the features and functions of this IC, it is versatile and ideal for multiple offline applications.
