The LNK6763E is an integrated offline power supply controller IC with integrated 56V and 600V MOSFETs. It is designed for off-line isolated and non-isolated power supplies, such as desktop PC power and adapter/charger, PC supply, server and ATX/Redundant (RPS/UPS) power, telecom/telecom equipment supplies, motor drive controls and solar inverters. It offers higher efficiency, smaller size and lower cost than traditional power supply with discrete components.

The LNK6763E integrates three high-voltage power MOSFETs (VDD gate driving of up to 500V) and three low-voltage power MOSFETs (VDD gate driving of up to 150V). It can operate at a switching frequency from 40KHz up to 1MHz. The control principle of this chip is Peak Current Mode. The chip has an adjustable external VCC pin, a power good logic output and an optional error amplifier for a wide range of operating conditions.

The LNK6763E’s application field is varied and its working principle centers on the peak current mode. Its application field extends from desktop power supplies and AC/DC converters to bridges, flyback, boost, buck, and SEPIC offline switching topologies. As a peak current mode controller, the chip takes the direct feedback of power switch current and launches a peak current that is limited by the external current sense resistor. As the load current increases, the chip automatically adjusts its output by changing the duty cycle/cycle of the power MOSFETs.

By controlling the conduction time (t on) of MOSFETs, the controller is able to achieve maximum efficiency for a range of line, load and temperature conditions. When the output voltage is lower than the voltage set point, the chip increases the t on leading to higher output current. On the other hand, if the output voltage is higher than the voltage set point, the chip decreases the t on leading to lower output current. This method provides very accurate and stable output voltage over a wide range of load and line conditions.

Apart from this, the chip also features over load protection as well as over temperature protection in case of abnormal load conditions. It also contains several proprietary safety features that protect the reliability, life and safety of the device such as SoC (short circuit limit), UVLO (under voltage lock out), OTP (over temperature protection) and SOS (soft start).
