The device also incorporates an over-current protection function that is triggered when the current through the external N-channel MOSFET exceeds the level set by the user-programmable current-limit reference. The LT1640HCN8#PBF also features a fault output signal that provides the user with a status indication when an overload or overtemperature occurs.

In addition, the LT1640HCN8#PBF device provides a programmable soft lockout facility. This feature allows the user to program the device to remain in the off-state until the VADJ voltage goes above its internal trip threshold, thus preventing any uncontrolled power-up events.
