The LT8609IMSE#PBF is a monolithic high power synchronous step-down DC/DC converter. The device simplifies layout and decreases external component count, while providing a high level of integration and full protection; all in a thermally enhanced 12-lead QFN package. The LT8609IMSE#PBF was designed to power modern high current microprocessors, ASIC’s, DSP’s and FPGA’s. With its excellent light load efficiency, it is ideal for battery powered systems.
The LT8609IMSE#PBF operates in either current mode or voltage mode control, with excellent accuracy and stability. Its extremely low start-up voltage and high efficiency operation result in improved performance in a wide range of applications. This device also includes a wide input voltage range, integrated output voltage sequencing and tracking, over-voltage protection, an adjustable soft start, short circuit protection, fault monitoring and adjustable frequency operation.
The LT8609IMSE#PBF is an ideal solution for power efficient designs requiring up to 8A of output current. The device can operate with an input voltage range from 4.5V to 16V, and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.6V to 6V. The device features a programmable input overvoltage (UVLO) and output overvoltage (OVP) protection with an adjustable OVP threshold from 0.8V to 6V. Soft start and standby current control are also available.
The LT8609IMSE#PBF includes a programmable current limit protection and fixed frequency operation. The current limit protection sets the maximum continuous current that can be delivered to the output. The current limit resistor sets the current limit value (I_LIMIT). The fixed frequency operation sets the switching frequency in current mode and voltage mode control. Typical frequency range is 300kHz to 1.8MHz.
The LT8609IMSE#PBF also includes an internal error amplifier and accurate output tracking. The internal error amplifier controls the loop transfer function, which is used for output voltage sequencing and tracking. The output voltage tracking allows for multiple output rails to follow the same voltage ramp. The remote sensing of the output voltage eliminates the effects of trace resistance and reduces the output voltage droop at higher output currents.
The LT8609IMSE#PBF features a Synchronous Current Mode Controller which enables constant frequency operation, enabling excellent dynamic performance. Current mode control also offers reduce cycle-to-cycle current variation for improved conversion efficiency over a wide load range. The device also supports step down, step up and dual-mode operation in a single IC.
